 Bill Cobham  Status updates

Hi Everybody: It would be great to take part in this my first p.p.v. presentation with We will discuss the attributes of group collaboration in real time like what happens on a jam session and how to get the most out of that playing experience for you. Also I'd like to share my thoughts about playing the drums in a constructive way either on my own or within the rhythm section something that I will share on a greater level through my Art of the Rhythm Section Retreat come this August 1 through 6 out in Arizona. So, don't hesitate to drop me a line based upon what you see here, especially if you are thinking of taking part in the webcast coming up. I would be happy to share your thoughts. Bill C.

Last night, just before I went left for the gig Dennis Chambers called and we talked and talked as usual, so much I forgot that I had to play and was in trouble of missing the start time. He is doing real good and I expect that he will be back in the drummers chair very soon. When it was time to play, I "walked" into a new set of bass drum heads that made a big difference in the way that the drums feel for me. I've always been a EMAD fan but now there is this new configuration called EMAD "Heavy". Kenny Aronoff has been playing them and when Marco S. has been blowing his horn about then pretty heavy as well so, when I requested he bring down 'my usual' stuff from Long Island, he threw two "Heavys" in as well. Franz put them on before the first show and, boy, could I feel the difference. A Big Fat sound that stays with me throughout the show.

Today we will add a new dimension to the drum set - a small "Gong-Ride". It's 28" in diameter. I have not played it yet so, we will see how we do. Last night we made more progress with the new tunes. They are still not laying the way I would like for them to work and we did not rehearse today, just so that we could stay away for a full 48 hours before "jumping back into the pan", so to speak and becoming more "one" with the notes and overall concept. Anybody in "Numubu Land" walking in the vicinity of 3rd street and Ave of the Americas stop by the Blue Note and check us out.

Whoa hey Bill Cobham! Cool, glad to see you're still playing the beats! I just put out a 15 song instrumental of my Drums accompanied by some very unique music, very hard edged. It's on my website if you care to listen. Keep jammin Drummer man!
