Here is a playlist that was on a radio show that did a whole program on Skip Spence on 7-20-2017. At the end of the show I got a mention, as Skip & I were friends the last 5 years of his life, & recorded tunes together from late 1995 until late 1998. The tune at the end of the playlist, "Land Of The Sun", was one of our collaborations that actually got released. I have a better version of it in my archives with all our parts intact, this released version was drastically altered. There is a decent amount of more tunes in my archives, also.

"Light Years Away"- The HAARP Unit Live

An ambient deep space jam I first came up with in 1985. This version was a live performance on KFJC 89.7 fm on 4-30-1998, during D.J. Solomon Grundy's show "At The Mountains Of Madness". He had me on his show before he went off the air, along with some other bands. This tune was performed using a Lexicon Jam Man looper, I did all my layers with that, it's 100% live, with no added studio tracks. A few other pieces have had tracks added later. While Joe Satriani has a tune by the same name, I had been calling this one by it's name since 1990.

Happy birthday dear friend Skip Spence! He would have been 70 today if he had stayed on Earth. I'll start with a posting of the Birdman release of his tune "Land Of The Sun", where we both played guitars. It should be fairly easy to tell us apart, if you are familiar with his style. My guitar work on this included the coda at the end of the song, & is also vaguely audible at the beginning & throughout. Dig it!

This is the same tribute I posted last year on FaceBook, but with a little updated info. When you go to the YouTube page, check out all the comments, there has been some good ones posted there since I got involved.

Saturday 4-9-2016 was another day & night of working on new material with the new band, here's a new tune from that session. Total prog freakiness.

King Nexus - "Developing into Nothing"

This video got pulled sometime in late 2016, I think. I wasn't keeping track that much at the time, because I had been "phased out" of the band in late September, 2016. A number of issues came up, one of the main points for me was not getting proper respect from the other members (some improper remarks were made by the drummer & bass player, who are the "principal" members of that band, I'll be glad to send info if anyone is sufficiently curious). In August 2016 a phony plot was cooked up by the bass player & drummer, with the drummer pretending to be mad at the bass player for accepting some gigs on a weekend that would postpone out weekly practice, we had been rehearsing at my place. They came over one afternoon that we had planned on rehearsing, the new keyboardist couldn't make it. The drummer set up his electronic kit, as we had all set up our gear, it was all ready to go. They stayed on my back porch discussing their weird plot, the drummer was pretending to be threatening to quit the band, he was going back & forth between practicing & not doing anything. I put in my 2 cents saying that I didn't want us to break up, but was hoping to get on with the session, so I went back in & started playing some tunes. Not long after that, the drummer comes in & starts taking his kit apart & packs it back in his truck (he had been keeping it at my place for practice). That was the alst time I saw that guy, & the 2nd time he walked out on me playing different material than what we usually played. They then lead me to believe that we were "just taking a break" until everyone was on the same page again. Then the hiatus was prolonged for another month, then we were supposed to be having another session at my place, & only the bass player shows up (late). He came up with some excuses about the other 2 guys having some other unexpected "commitments", we then hung out & watched the latest King Crimson DVD instead. After 2 hours he drops the bomb, saying that they were "concerned about my situation", wanted to get me "back in the band at a later time", & the reasons kept changing as the conversation progressed, finally becoming "we are getting another guitarist, you aren't the droid we are looking for". He then said he wanted to keep working on soundscape projects with me, but the next day I decided I didn't want to just be pigeonholed into just being a soundscaper what I do a lot more, etc. The last jewel he dropped on me was "you don't seem like you are ready for the responsibility of being in a band". I was playing in bands before he was born, he is now 25, I'm 60. I had helped by supplying a place for us to practice without paying more for it, had plenty of professional gear for us to use, & that is what I got out of it. The final straw for me was when he decided to remove me as an admin from the FaceBook page *I created* for the band, on my birthday. I hadn't unfriended him on FaceBook yet, but I did after that. If you think this is too long, it's barely even half of what there is to tell. These people started out at the beginning praising all of my work with them, had immediately decided that I was an essential part of the band, & was considered one of the 3 core members. Things went south after the drummer got his friend the keyboard player in the outfit. I do accept full responsibility for even accepting their invitation to join them in early 2016, but they are also responsible for their own handling of these matters, which is why I'm compelled to write about it. I'm still looking for "closure".
